Teacher Funding

The following letter addresses the systematic state funding error that allots money for teachers on a district level rather than on a school by school basis. This practice leaves Moore County in a shortfall for teacher funding each year. Please include the name of the leader you are contacting and their address at the top of the page and the current date when mailing your letter.

Dear Sir:

Today I am writing about the systematic state funding error that allots money for teachers on a district level rather than on a school by school basis. This formula has resulted in a “rounding down error,” leaving teaching positions unfunded. In Moore County last year, this caused a $1.5 million dollar shortfall – the equivalent of 30 teaching positions! These badly needed positions are vital to high quality education and the success of our public schools. Further, shifting these costs to the county general fund lowers the amount available to build, update, and ensure the structural and campus safety of our schools.

Please do not allow this broken formula to harm our public school students any longer. I ask you to introduce legislation to fund teaching positions on a per-school basis beginning in the next school year.

Sincerely,
Your name
